The Measuring Instruments Directive (MID) 2014/32/EC is a regulation used by the European Union to supervise and manage measuring instruments. Its directive specifies new method standards, conformity assessment procedures, and implementation deadlines for measuring instrument products. The Measuring Instruments Directive is an EU directive that includes automatic scales, fuel dispensers, length and volume measuring instruments, as well as water meters, electricity meters, gas meters, and other measuring instruments. The purpose of issuing this directive is to establish a single market for measuring instruments for manufacturers, ultimately benefiting consumers.

Measuring instruments are used in areas such as public interest, health, safety, order, environmental protection, consumer protection, travel, taxation, tariffs, etc., all of which require compliance with MID requirements in principle. In practical operation, MID mainly specifies the following measuring instruments:

Mode A is based on DoC of internal production management (A1=+product testing of designated institutions)

Type inspection of designated institutions in Mode B

Mode G is based on DoC certification of a single product by a designated organization

Mode H is based on a comprehensive quality assurance system and DoC (A1=+product testing by designated institutions)

Mode C: DoC based on internal production management

Mode D is based on the form of DoC in the QA production process

Mode E: DoC based on QA for final product inspection and testing
